The Forest Grove Lions' 12th Annual Run/Walk for Sight is set for Saturday, September 15, 2012. This annual event is a 5K Run or Walk and generates funds for eye care for those who can't afford it, scholarships and funds for the Amigos, Pacific Univ. optometry students who distribute eye glasses and eye care in developing countries. We recently screened 123 Gaston Elemenatary School students for hearing using the Oregon Sight & Hearing Foundation's new portable hearing test equipment. In December, we tested students at the Visitation School in Verboort for vision and hearing. The Oregon legislature has mandated that all elementary students in the state be tested for vision and hearing annually. Since this mandate is not funded, Oregon's Lions Clubs have taken on this task at no cost to the public.
Did you see all the flags out on MLK Day in Forest Grove? The flags are put out on 10 holidays each year for businesses purchasing contracts from the Forest Grove Lions. The next flag day is Presidents' Day, February 20.
- Provide eyeglasses and hearing aids for the needy in our neighborhood.
- Support Pacific University and Amigos in their efforts to provide eyeglasses and hearing aids to the needy in other countries.
- Provide scholarships for Pacific University students.
- Support youth activities: FG Little League, FG Babe Ruth, WCSA (Soccer), FG High School/FFA
- STARS & STRIPES FLAG PROGRAM Provide local businesses the opportunity to display the US Flag every holiday.
- Support local charities: Habitat for Humanity, Theatre in the Grove, FG Senior Center.
- Support local sight & hearing activities: Mobile Screening Unit, Hearing & Speech Institute, Pacific University Sight Fund
- Conduct several fund raisers each year for the support of the Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation through activities such as: The Run/Walk for Sight, October Rose Day sale, Candy sales, Dinners, and public events.
If you can join us, we would appreciate your support in our fund raising efforts. All profits from fundraisers are used for charitable purposes. All club administrative costs are borne by club members through their annual dues.
